Available Positions: 2 Food Service StaffDuration: June 8 – August 19, additional work available in pre- and post-seasonMinimum age: 17+Prerequisites: Some kitchen experience or a strong interest in learning about preparing large group meals. Characteristics: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, passionate about cooking, willing to collaborate and work in a team atmosphere, excited to work hard and take on various food prep, cooking, storage, and cleanup responsibilities in the camp kitchen.Description: Food Service Staff are responsible for the preparation of meals for groups of 200+ Abnaki campers and staff. Ensure that safe food handling and preparation standards are met, proper disinfection and sanitization practices are utilized, and that meals are prepared in a timely manner. Available Positions: 1 Assistant Property ManagerDuration: June 8 – August 19Minimum age: 17+Prerequisites: Cleaning, landscaping, general maintenance, basic working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or mechanical, or willingness to learn.Characteristics: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment, able to collaborate and work in a team atmosphere, willing to work hard and take on various responsibilities. Able to safely operate basic landscaping and maintenance tools.Description: Under the direction of the Property Manager, responsible for maintaining and improving the 90 acre Camp Abnaki property. Tasks vary from day to day, but will include providing frontline leadership to a small team of seasonal staff members as they conduct bathroom cleaning, trash and recycling disposal, lawn care and gardening, and assist in the general maintenance of the 50+ buildings. POSITION SUMMARY: 
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Health, wellness, and safety is the top concern for the Health Center Assistant. Under the guidance and in support of camp’s Registered Nurse, this person will help manage camper and staff medication (intake, organization, and distribution), assist in patient evaluation, and provide either follow up care or assist in coordination of elevated care when necessary. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Minimum Age: 21 
  • Required Certifications: WFA (wilderness first aid), WFR (wilderness first responder), EMT (emergency medical technician), LNA (licensed nursing assistant), or equivalent. 
  • Have the ability to interact with co-workers, campers, and the general public in a professional and effective manner. 
  • Assist in safely organizing and managing the camp health center 
  • Employees are expected to report to work at the scheduled time on a regular basis while completing work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner. 
  • Ability to live on site for the duration of the summer season. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • In partnership with the camp nurse, maintain health record files, daily log and treatment book, and insurance claim provisions constant with the provisions of law and established ACA and pediatric standards. 
  • Help maintain medical equipment and supplies and medicines in accordance with established practice. 
  • Help ensure that the health center is kept clean, quiet, and prepared to deal with emergency and ongoing health care at the camp health services center. 
  • Provide an environment where the core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility are role modeled and recognized. 
  • Communicate with parents regarding medical concerns and care given while their camper is in attendance. 
  • Provide support and coverage for the camp registered nurse, which may include distribution of medication, first aid, triage, and overnight occupancy in the health center 
  • Communicate and coordinate with local medical resources (including Grand Isle Rescue, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and Northwest Medical Center) as appropriate. 
  • Provide training for all staff on health center policies and emergency procedures. 
  • Perform Evening Watch, as assigned. 
  • At the end of the summer, assist with performing a detailed inventory of supplies and ensure health center equipment, building, and supplies are put away.

Additional pay may be given for applicants with certifications in needed areas: Lifeguard, CPR/First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and Program Instruction (USA Level 1 Archery Instruction, High Ropes Course Training, US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instruction, etc.)
